The Kerala Private College Managements' Association came into being as a registered organization on 3 rd May 1960.It was established as a common platform of the Managements of Private Colleges of Kerala to promote harmony and cooperation among them in all matters relating to their common good and quality higher education. Founded at Ernakulam, the following luminaries constituted the first Executive Committee of the Association:
Rev.George Malamcharuvil,Bursar Mar Ivanios College, Trivandrum and Very.Rev.Mother Alphonsus,Mother General,St.Teresas College Ernakulam were also among the first signatories of the Association.
The Association has been playing an important role in safeguarding the interests of Government Aided colleges of Kerala. It was instrumental in shaping the provisions of Direct Payment Agreement of 1972 between College Managements and State Government. The Association succeeded in incorporating the provisions of this agreement into the Statutes of various affiliating universities of Kerala.
In the past the Association has fought several legal battles on issues pertaining to higher education in general and Aided colleges in particular. A long array of luminaries has given leadership to the activities of the organization. The contributions of Prof.R. Prasannakumar and Rev.Dr. (late) Mathew Maleparambil in recent years are gratefully remembered.
